How to Wash and Care for DTF Printed Apparel

Keep your custom apparel looking its best with simple washing and drying habits. This guide is for clothing decorated with direct-to-film (DTF) transfers. Always follow the garment care label and any instructions included with your order; use the gentler option when they differ.

Before the first wash

Follow the waiting period supplied with your transfer before washing a freshly pressed garment. If you are applying loose transfers yourself, use the application instructions provided for that transfer and fabric. Contact us before pressing if you need help with temperature, time, pressure or peeling.

A gentle wash routine

  • Turn the garment inside out to reduce rubbing against the printed design.
  • Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle with similar colors.
  • Use a mild detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softener and harsh stain treatments on the print.
  • Avoid scrubbing, wringing or stretching the printed area.

Dry with care

Air drying is a gentle choice. If the garment label allows tumble drying, use low heat and remove the item promptly. Keep high heat away from the design.

Ironing

Do not iron directly on the print. If ironing is permitted by the garment label, turn the garment inside out and use a low setting on the reverse side, avoiding the printed area.

Why might a print fade or peel?

Heat, friction and harsh laundry products can affect a printed garment. Adhesion also depends on the transfer, fabric and correct application. A care routine helps protect the design, but it cannot correct an application problem. We do not promise a fixed number of washes for every garment.
